I know, The Hunger Game movies are serious. The message is deep and relevant to the craziness going on today. But for my Saturday night movie, I kinda want shallow. Action, adventure, hot love, car chases, hot guys, things on fire. You know. Way far different than real life. Which is what I adored about the first two movies in this series. They were over-the-top with effects, costumes and much of the acting. Not so much Mockingjay. Far too much drama for this girl, though many reviewers on Netflix liked the more dramatic slant. (Don't you love to read reviews after you've watched a movie to see who agrees with you?)
Haymitch Abernathy (Wood Harrelson) rocked his role, as usual, but had far too little screen time. I loved the lines where he's craving a drink. Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) is also awesome. Two thumbs up for the way she makes do with what she has to spiff up her hair when her wigs are taken away. Though her make-up is toned down, she's still semi-outrageous.
Yes, outrageous. That's what's missing from this installment that the first two segments of this series gave us. Katniss was feisty and unpredictable, as were the other characters. In Mockingjay, she wimped out. Too much crying for a bad-ass. There are a few nice scenes were she gets her ferocious on, but not enough for me. Will I watch the second part? We'll see.
Go to Amazon and watch the trailer. If you're an action junkie like me, those are the best parts, so enjoy.
