How vibrators came to be, and a cute romance

You always wanted to know how the vibrator was invented, right? Watch Hysteria and find out. Based on true events, this movie tells the story of a man, Dr. Mortimer Granville, who goes to work assisting Dr. Dalrymple treating women for Hysteria. Apparently, by inducing what they call "paroxysmal convulsions," the women are cured of this dreadful disease. Uh, dude, you're giving the ladies orgasms. Which, as the heroine Charlotte says, wouldn't be necessary if men knew how to make proper love to a woman. Got to love Charlotte. So yes, medically necessary orgasms. And the doctors wonder why their practice is busy.

So busy, that poor Mortimer ends up with hand cramps and must find another way to do his work. His inventor friend has developed an electric feather duster, and Mortimer finds a way to modify that. In the midst of all this, Mortimer also has a love interest in Dr. Dalrymple's proper daughter, Emily, but finds himself drawn to her more outspoken sibling, Charlotte. 

This movie takes place in London around 1880, one of my favorite time periods. It addresses what was going on with the poor, with women and children, and with medicine. It's a cute, mostly light-hearted film with only a few heavy scenes, so order it for a relaxing date night. Oh, be sure to watch the closing credits, to see the different models of various vibrators over the years. We've come a long way, baby!
