My love of pinball machines began when I was in high school. Two other friends and I would spend the night at one girls house and walk up the street to a convenience store to play pinball by the hour. We must have been pretty good because we didn't have a lot of money so the only way we could have played that long was by winning. My next experience was later in life. A friend had a sister who was on a bowling team, so for something relatively inexpensive to do, several of us would hang out at the bowling alley and play the Cyclone. By then I was old enough to enjoy alcohol and other recreational substances, so playing the game went to a whole other level. Good times! Nowadays, there aren't many pinball machines left so I was delighted to find one at my honey's favorite bar. Lucky for him, since the joint is not my idea of a place to hang out. It's small, smoky, and has no air conditioning. The way a good blues bar should be, he says. It relies on the ocean breeze to keep cool. Sometimes, this brings in winged visitors. The night we went the pool players had to fight for space on the table. I'm not a big fan of blues music but since it was my honey's birthday weekend, he got to choose the entertainment so there we were. I had my roll of quarters and a sweaty Scotch and soda; I was content. The new machines are not as good as the oldies and I can't play nearly as long for a few dollars, but it's still fun. Yep, I'm burning up the bumpers! This picture was taken with my honey real close behind me. Fun for both. Below I've got my hair down which didn't stay long. The heat finally got us both so we stepped outside and watched the lightning flash across the ocean. (I'm not a good enough photographer to catch those bolts of electricity, so you'll have to use your imagination.)
If you ever have the chance to play a pinball machine, grab it. They're few and far between, but a whole lot of fun!
