What I didn't love about Interstellar

Ready for something totally NOT Christmas? How about a sci-fi movie? Kind of. Interstellar is mostly science fiction, but it's also action/adventure, suspense, way too much drama for my taste, and even a little romance. That's my big problem with this movie; it can't make up it's mind what it wants to be.

I'll share two parts that really turned me off and they won't be spoilers since they happen early on. Oh, did I mention the movie runs over two hours? Yeah, another problem for moi. I can barely sit still for one solid hour let alone two. Add a heaping dose of turkey dinner to that and I was almost in snooze-land. I kept pushing my seat to try and make it recline all the way back.

But on to my review. Our hero, Cooper, played by the yummy Mathew McConaughey, is somehow the only person who can operate this special spaceship, so he takes off and leaves his young children behind with their grandfather. No. Wrong. You don't do that. Find someone else to drive the ship. You stay home and take care of those kids since their mother died and YOU are the daddy. End of story,

Then there's a scene where it very briefly touches on the fact that many people believe the Apollo space program never took place. Huh? I know this is sci-fi and I try to stretch my imagination but come on. That's a little too far fetched for me to buy. I couldn't do it.

My honey loved this movie and you might too. Read the plot at Wikipedia, and my sincere appreciation for whoever wrote the synopsis to this convoluted work. Check out more opinions at Rotten Tomatoes. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't like it!

Actually, my mother went to her grave (10+ years ago) believing that the moon walk was broadcast from Antarctica -- and my dad worked in the space program!! (In fact, his name is in the NASA Hall of Fame for having worked on the committee to develop the engineering standards for lunar rovers, way back in the 1950s.)

So, yes, there are people out there who fit the "I don't buy what NASA is selling" bill. :)

My honey works out at the Kennedy Space Center and has seen and heard all kinds of things. I'd never put it past our government to come up with a few 'fake' events to charm the public. Thanks for sharing your story...I love it!
